README

Configures a site for translation. Nothing in the recipe is project specific: it loops over every translatable entity type and bundle that exists when the recipe is applied.

  • Installs language, locale, content_translation, config_translation, disable_language and the vb_multilingual helper module.
  • Adds the languages of the languages input.
  • Allows translating the English interface and lets authenticated users view and create content in disabled languages.
  • Applies the translation defaults of vb_multilingual: content translation for every bundle, translatable fields by field type and the language selector beneath the title. When layout_builder_at is installed, every translation gets its own layout. See the README of vb_multilingual.

For machine translation with DeepL, use vb_multilingual_deepl_recipe, which includes this recipe.

Installation

The project's composer.json needs the installer path for recipes:

"installer-paths": {
    "recipes/{$name}": ["type:drupal-recipe"]
}
composer require vectorbross/vb_multilingual_recipe
cd web
php core/scripts/drupal recipe ../recipes/vb_multilingual_recipe --input=vb_multilingual_recipe.languages=fr,en
drush cr && drush config:export
drush locale:check && drush locale:update

Without --input the recipe asks for the languages. Leave it empty to only configure the existing languages. The recipe can be applied again, it only adds or corrects configuration.

Not done by the recipe: placing a language switcher block in the theme.
