Project Notice

This project is an independent extension maintained by 7x for Exponential.

Project Status

sevenx_themes_admin_classic is actively maintained and intended for production use where editors need a classic, server-rendered administration interface next to the installation's default administration design.

What Is sevenx_themes_admin_classic?

The extension provides:

  • The design design/admin_classic: classic administration templates, images and stylesheets, with a server-rendered content tree and sub items list.
  • settings/design.ini.append.php: registers the extension as a design extension.
  • settings/uiswitch.ini.append.php: registers admin_classic with the kernel's UI switch design provider. Current Exponential kernels already list admin_classic in their own uiswitch.ini defaults with the same values; the extension repeats them so kernels whose defaults lack the entry offer the design too, and it is harmless where the kernel has it.
  • settings/sevenxthemesadminclassic.ini.append.php: page size defaults for the classic sub items list.

The switch itself, its toolbar tool (admin_ui_switch), its policy and its session handling are part of the Exponential kernel. The extension ships no kernel overrides, no module and no toolbar tool of its own.

When an editor chooses "Classic (server-rendered)", their requests run with:

  • SiteDesign = admin_classic
  • AdditionalSiteDesignList = admin

Every other user keeps the siteaccess's own design. The kernel keeps the design-base, compiled-template, cache-block and view caches separate per chosen design, so no cache has to be cleared when an editor switches.

Requirements

  • Exponential 6.0.15 or later, with the kernel's UI switch design provider (settings/uiswitch.ini, group [UISwitch_design]).

Installation

  1. Activate the extension:
[ExtensionSettings]
ActiveExtensions[]=sevenx_themes_admin_classic
  1. Grant the policy uiswitch/design to the roles that may choose the administration design (a role with all modules and all functions already has it).

  2. Regenerate the extension autoloads and clear the INI and template caches:

php ./bin/php/ezpgenerateautoloads.php -e
php ./bin/php/ezcache.php --clear-tag=ini
php ./bin/php/ezcache.php --clear-id=template-override

"Classic (server-rendered)" now appears in the kernel's UI switch in the administration toolbar.

Nothing else is needed: no kernel overrides, no EZP_AUTOLOAD_ALLOW_KERNEL_OVERRIDE, no ezpgenerateautoloads.php --kernel-override, and no file in settings/override.

Configuration

Label and fallback chain

extension/sevenx_themes_admin_classic/settings/uiswitch.ini.append.php:

[UISwitch_design]
AllowedValues[]=admin_classic
DesignChain[admin_classic]=admin
DesignLabel[admin_classic]=Classic (server-rendered)

To change the label or the chain for one installation, override these keys in settings/override/uiswitch.ini.append.php or a siteaccess's uiswitch.ini.append.php.

Sub items page size

extension/sevenx_themes_admin_classic/settings/sevenxthemesadminclassic.ini.append.php:

[SevenXThemesAdminClassicSettings]
SubitemsDefaultLimit=200
SubitemsMaxLimit=5000

Optional: content view preferences for the sub items window

To open the sub items window by default for administrators, set in the admin siteaccess's site.ini.append.php:

[ContentSettings]
CachedViewPreferences[full]=admin_navigation_content=1;admin_navigation_subitems=1;admin_subitems_limit=200;admin_children_viewmode=list;admin_list_limit=1

Upgrading from v0.2.4 or earlier

Releases up to v0.2.4 shipped their own kernel override of ezpKernelWeb, a switchadmindesign module and an admin_switch_design toolbar tool. All of them are gone. When upgrading:

  1. Regenerate the autoloads without --kernel-override (php ./bin/php/ezpgenerateautoloads.php -e, and the kernel autoloads as usual), so the old override classes are no longer mapped.
  2. Remove define( 'EZP_AUTOLOAD_ALLOW_KERNEL_OVERRIDE', true ); from config.php if nothing else needs it.
  3. Remove admin_switch_design from your siteaccess toolbar.ini.append.php files, any switchadmindesign policies from your roles and any PolicyOmitList[]=switchadmindesign.
  4. Remove settings/override/sevenxthemesadminclassic.ini.append.php if it only set SharedAdminSiteaccessName or SwitchAdminDesignSessionVariableName.
  5. Grant uiswitch/design and clear the caches as in Installation.

Troubleshooting

"Classic (server-rendered)" is not offered in the UI switch

  1. Confirm the extension is active and settings/design.ini.append.php is read (the design must exist for the provider to offer it).
  2. Confirm the kernel's UI switch is enabled (uiswitch.ini [UISwitch_design] Enabled=true) and the user holds uiswitch/design.
  3. Clear the INI cache (--clear-tag=ini).

The UI switch is missing from the toolbar

Confirm the admin siteaccess's toolbar.ini lists the kernel tool admin_ui_switch in Toolbar_admin_right.
