Requirements

  • Drupal CMS 2.2 or higher (Drupal core 11.4+)
  • PHP 8.3+
  • Composer 2.x

Installation

Option 1: Through Drupal CMS Installer

Kern Canvas and its kern_ux theme are only available as development releases for now, so allow dev stability before requiring it:

composer create-project drupal/cms my-site && cd my-site
composer config minimum-stability dev
composer config prefer-stable true
composer require drupal/kern_canvas:1.0.x-dev

Then open the site in the browser, select "Kern Canvas" from the site template list and complete the installation wizard.

Option 2: Apply to Existing Site

composer require drupal/kern_canvas
drush recipe recipes/contrib/kern_canvas

Customization

After installation, you can customize your site through:

  1. Appearance: Navigate to Admin > Appearance to configure the theme
  2. Content Types: Admin > Structure > Content types
  3. Menus: Admin > Structure > Menus
  4. Blocks: Admin > Structure > Block layout

Development

Setting Up Local Development

# Using DDEV
ddev config --project-type=drupal11 --docroot=web
ddev start
ddev composer create-project drupal/cms
ddev composer require drupal/kern_canvas:1.x-dev@dev

Exporting Changes

After making customizations, export them back to the recipe:

drush site:export --destination=../recipes/kern_canvas
